This is a video that shows you how to manage potential diseases on tomato plants by creating a newspaper ground barrier and by pruning leaves. It is the 3rd of 6 videos showing the same tomato plant and how to tend to it at different growth stages. The 1st and 2nd videos in the series are below.

  1. That's really informative. I do remove most of the suckers from my tomato plants. Also all my tomato plants are in containers - so I still have to mulch it? And due to regular watering won't the news paper eventually decompose?

  2. Hello,

    The height of the container creates a nice gap but old soil can have spores etc in it. I would mulch for that reason but more than an inch But also to help manage moisture. If you did a quick newspaper barrier and fresh mulch topping or whatever... it not only prevents splash but might help maintain moisture.
