That's really informative. I do remove most of the suckers from my tomato plants. Also all my tomato plants are in containers - so I still have to mulch it? And due to regular watering won't the news paper eventually decompose?

ReplyDeleteThe height of the container creates a nice gap but old soil can have spores etc in it. I would mulch for that reason but more than an inch But also to help manage moisture. If you did a quick newspaper barrier and fresh mulch topping or whatever... it not only prevents splash but might help maintain moisture.
